Russia is trying to disrupt the operation of British military satellites on a regular basis, announced Major General Paul Tedman, head of the United Kingdom's Space Command, reports the Agerpres and DPA agencies

In a statement to the BBC, Major General Paul Tedman said that Russian forces are actively trying to disrupt military activities in the United Kingdom 'on a weekly basis' and are closely monitoring the country's space assets.

'We see that our satellites are constantly being targeted by the Russians,' he said.

The UK operates about six military communications and surveillance satellites, which Tedman said are equipped with anti-jamming technology.

The threat of space interference is not limited to the UK.

In September, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius revealed that Russian satellites had been tracking two Intelsat satellites used by the German military.

“They can disrupt the functioning of satellites, blind them, manipulate them or disrupt them kinetically,” he told a space conference in Berlin.

In response to rising international tensions, the United Kingdom and the United States last month carried out their first coordinated maneuver with satellites in space, with defense officials hailing it as a major step forward in allied cooperation.

Between September 4 and 12, a U.S. satellite was repositioned in orbit to inspect a British satellite and confirm that it was functioning properly.

The test was part of Operation Olympic Defender, a joint military framework aimed at improving satellite defense and resilience.

"Expertly executed with U.S. Space Command, I am extremely excited and proud of the rapid progress we are making with our allies," Tedman said.

"Now, together with our allies, we are conducting advanced operations in orbit to protect and defend our shared national and military interests in space," he added.
